Composer/lyricist Jason Robert Brown will be doing two shows at The Cutting Room on Tuesdays, June 18 and June 25. Guitarist Gary Sieger and bassist Randy Landau, both of whom played with Brown in the band of his recent Off-Broadway musical, The Last 5 Years, will join him again here; Lauren Kennedy, the female lead in the Chicago production of L5Y last summer, will lend her vocal talents to the trio.

Brown, a recent recipient of the Kleban Award, won a Tony Award for his score for the Lincoln Center production of Parade and this year picked up two Drama Desk Awards for his music and lyrics to L5Y. He has done several concerts in NYC, playing with Sieger, Landau, and many others at venues such as Joe’s Pub, Cooper Union, and the Village Theater. As usual, Brown and company will play songs from Parade, L5Y, and Brown’s first musical, Songs for a New World, as well as some songs that haven’t yet been recorded.

The shows are presented in “The Sh-K-Boom Room” at The Cutting Room as part of an ongoing series that aims to bridge the gap between musical theater and pop music by giving Broadway singers and musicians the chance to perform in a concert setting. The series is produced by Sh-K-Boom Records, which has albums by theater rockers Adam Pascal, Alice Ripley, and, Sherie René Scott in its growing catalogue, as well as the recently released cast recording of The Last 5 Years.

Both concerts are at 7pm. The Cutting Room is located at 19 West 24th Street between 5th and 6th avenues. There will be a $20 cover charge at the door. For reservations, send an e-mail to BoomRoom@sh-k-boom.com.
