Andrew Borthwick-Leslie and Sybille Bruun will direct The Shakespeare Forum's upcoming production of The Merchant of Venice, which is set to run from May 22-June 14 at The Gym at Judson. Opening night will be May 29.

In the Shakespearean classic, Antonio, the titular merchant, borrows money from Shylock to help a friend woo a wealthy maiden. Unadvisedly, however, Antonio secures the loan with a pound of his own flesh as collateral.

The production stars Dominic Comperatore, Joseph J. Menino, Francis Mateo, Hannah Goalstone, John Smiley, Zach Libresco, Imani Jade Powers, Sarah Hankins, Lash Dooley, Michael Moreno, Bill Coyne, and Gabriel Lawrence. Set and lighting are by Marie Yokoyama, with costumes by Brittany Merola.

The Shakespeare Forum was created to inspire artists and nonartists alike to find their creative voices through theater by offering free and low-cost classes, workshops, and performances. Past productions include Hamlet (directed by Sybille Bruun), A Midsummer Night's Dream (directed by Tyler Moss), and Love's Labour's Lost (directed by Andrew Borthwick-Leslie and Sybille Bruun).
