The creators of the popular musical tick, tick… BOOM!, legendary songwriter Stephen Sondheim, and the original cast of the musical Pump Boys and Dinettes will take part in this year's edition of The Lobby Project, a series of free pre-show events presented in conjunction with 's Encores! Off-Center series. The events will place the three musicals of this year's Off-Center lineup — tick, tick… BOOM!, Randy Newman's Faust: The Concert, and Pump Boys and Dinettes — in the context of its legacy in theater history.
In conjunction with tick, tick… BOOM!, the Lobby Project will welcome the family of the show's composer-lyricist Jonathan Larson for a discussion with Off-Center artistic director Jeanine Tesori on June 25, as well as a concert of songs by Stephen Sondheim, remixed by today's cutting-edge musicians on June 26.
Additionally, the series will welcome Matt Gould and Griffin Matthews, the creators of the new musical Witness Uganda, for a chat on June 27, and host a discussion between Tesori, musical director Stephen Oremus, and tick, tick… BOOM! book adapter David Auburn on June 28. The series will conclude with a June 28 concert of Larson's lesser-known musicals, curated by Jennifer Ashley Tepper of 54 Below.
To celebrate Pump Boys and Dinettes, the original cast of actors, writers, and musicians will reunite for a jam session on July 16. The original performers and creators of [title of show] will do the same on July 18. The following night, songwriter/performer Shaina Taub will perform her own material in celebration of the show.
