Full Casting Announced for Off-Broadway's Piece of My Heart: The Bert Berns Story

New cast members will join Zak Resnick, Leslie Kritzer, Linda Hart, and more.

Piece of My Heart: The Bert Berns Story, an upcoming musical based on the life of the legendary songwriter, has announced its full cast. The production is set to begin previews at The Irene Diamond Stage at The Pershing Square Signature Center on June 25, with an official opening night set for July 21. In addition to Berns' own music, the show features a book by Daniel Goldfarb and direction and choreography by Denis Jones.

The full cast includes Zak Resnick as Bert Berns, Drama Desk Award nominee Leslie Kritzer as Jessie, Linda Hart as Mom, Joseph Siravo as Wazzel, Tony Award nominee de'Adre Aziza as Candace, Derrick Baskin as Hoagy, Teal Wicks as Ilene, and Bryan Fenkart as Young Wazzel, with an ensemble that includes Carleigh Bettiol, Teresa Gattison, Shonica Gooden, Sydney James Harcourt, Jessica McRoberts, Ralph Meitzler, Harris Milgrim, Michael Millan, Heather Parcells, Gabrielle Ruiz, Amos Wolff, and Mark Zeisler.

The creative team includes Alexander Dodge (scenic design), David C. Woolard (costume design), Ben Stanton (lighting design), Carl Casella (sound design), Garry Sherman (music supervision, orchestrations, and arrangements), and Lon Hoyt (music direction).

Songwriter and record producer Bert Berns made 51 pop chart singles in seven years and became one of the most successful songwriters of the 1960s. His songs include "Twist and Shout," "Tell Him," "I Want Candy," "Hang On Sloopy," "Cry Baby," "Piece of My Heart," and more.
