Lea DeLaria Will Join CSC’s Caucasian Chalk Circle for Two-Week Extension

DeLaria will take over the role of the Governor’s Wife from Mary Testa, who will open the production.

Actress/comedian Lea DeLaria (The Rocky Horror Show) will join Classic Stage Company‘s production of Bertolt Brecht’s The Caucasian Chalk Circle beginning June 11. The production, originally scheduled to close on June 9, has been extended through June 23 and will officially open on May 30.

DeLaria, who won a 1998 Theatre World Award for her performance in Broadway’s On the Town, will take over the role of the Governor’s Wife from Mary Testa, who will depart the production on its original closing date. DeLaria joins a company that includes Christopher Lloyd (Azdak), Jason Babinsky (The Adjutant/Ironshirt/Yussup/Nephew/Lawyer), Elizabeth A. Davis (Grusha), Alex Hurt (Simon/Ironshirt/Monk/Bandit), Tom Riis Farrell (The Cook/Fat Prince/Corporal/Lavrenti/Shauva), and Deb Radloff (The Nurse/Peasant Woman/Aniko/Ludovica).

CSC artistic director Brian Kulick directs the drama, which features music by Duncan Sheik. The production’s creative team includes Tony Straiges (scenic design), Anita Yavich (costume design), Justin Townsend (lighting design), and Matt Kraus (sound design).

The Caucasian Chalk Circle follows the adventures of kitchen maid Grusha (Davis), who comes to the aid of a defenseless infant in the midst of their country’s revolution. Brecht is also the author of the plays Mother Courage and Her Children, The Good Person of Szechwan, The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui, The Threepenny Opera, and Galileo, which Kulick helmed last season at CSC.
