Tony Award-Winning Producer Edgar "Buddy" Freitag Has Died

Tony Award-Winning theater producer Edgar "Buddy" Freitag died on May 30 in New York City due to complications from a brain tumor. He was 80 years old.

After serving 2 years in the US Army, Freitag spent 17 years as a Vice-President at Grey Advertising Agency in New York City. He then co-founded United Financial of America, Inc., a national commercial mortgage banking/brokerage firm. Following the sale of his company, Freitag began investing, together with his wife Barbara, in many Off-Broadway and Broadway productions.

Freitag is currently represented on Broadway by the 2010 Tony Award winning Best Musical Memphis and 2012 Tony Award nominees Porgy and Bess, Nice Work If You Can Get It, and End of the Rainbow.

He is survived by his wife Barbara, their four children, Larry Freitag, Eve Freitag, Harry Falk, Liz Freitag Dranoff, and 7 grandchildren.
