Programming Announced for OPEN: The New Jewish Theater Residency

LABA: The National Laboratory for New Jewish Culture and the Jewish Plays Project are set to present OPEN: The New Jewish Theater Residency at the 14th Street Y, a five-project residency to take place June 23-July 1.

The residency, which will provide space, significant resources, and fully staged readings to five teams of artists, will present Six by Zohar Tirosh-Polk, the story of ex-pat an Israeli returns home with her American boyfriend, directed by the New Group’s Ian Morgan. OPEN will also present The Golems of Gotham, a stage version of Thane Rosenbaum’s spiritual novel, adapted and directed by Sherry Teitelbaum. The production will feature aerial arts by Fran Sperling and Klezmer music by Joe Denizon.

Jen Wineman will direct Drama League nominee Sarah Gancher’s Klauzal Square, a play about precocious teen Klara and her friend Agi, the ghost of a thirteen year old girl. The Anthropologists’ new ensemble created piece examining last year’s Egyptian Revolution through the lens of the Passover Seder will be directed by Melissa Moschitto. Finally, Live Action Puppet Cinema will present Salt of the Earth, based on Amos Kenan’s novel The Road to Ein Harod and directed by Zvi Sahar.
