Piper Theatre to Present Smart Plays for Young Actors

Piper Theatre and Piper Plays are set to present Smart Plays for Young Actors, 9 new one-act plays that explore the world of children, June 15-17 at 7pm at Brooklyn Arts Exchange. The event is the culmination of a nationwide playwriting contest.

The plays featured will include Corey Pajka’s The Queen of Cocoa Puffs and The Captain Crunch King, directed by Marielle Duke; Thomas M. Atkinson’s Dancing Turtle, directed by Rachel Rear; Marco Santarelli’s Dandelions for Angels, directed by Alissa Laderer; Jeane Iribarne’s Fall of Duty, directed by Nicholas Guastella; Christopher Dimond’s The Blasphemy of Bees, directed by John McEneny; Christopher Dimond’s Burying Barblie, directed by John McEneny; Steve Koppman’s Handy Man, directed by Sarah Abrams; Tatiana Suarez Pico’s Cravings, directed by Henry Pines; and Sean O’Donnell’s Brechtian Alienation , directed by John McEneny.

After the festival, three of these plays will be selected to be presented again on July 11 during the Piper Theatre Summer season. At that performance, the audience will vote on their favorite one act and the winner will receive at $500 prize.
