On Sunday, May 1, the 2011
Lucille Lortel Awards, honoring Outstanding Achievement Off-Broadway, were presented at NYU Skirball Center, on Sunday, May 1. Samantha Bee and Zach Braff hosted the ceremony.
The ceremony featured performances by Everett Bradley, Orfeh, The Bettys, and Michael T. Presenters included Kevin Kline, Olympia Dukakis, Blythe Danner, AnnaLynne McCord, Natasha Lyonne, Hilarie Burton, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Annabella Sciorra, Michael T. Weiss, Mike Birbiglia, Lily Rabe, Josh Hamilton, Matthew Settle, Ron Rifkin, T.V. Carpio, Valerie Harper, Arian Moayed, Terrence McNally, Anson Mount, Anthony Rapp, Sanjaya Malakar, Tammy Blanchard, Kate Shindle, Chris Benz, Billy Porter, Seth Numrich, Christopher Hanke, Jeremy Strong, and Patina Miller.
Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, featuring music and lyrics by Michael Friedman, book by Alex Timbers was named Outstanding Musical; Kristoffer Diaz’s The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity was named Outstanding Play; and Angels in America was named Outstanding Revival. Acting awards were given to Christian Borle, Peter and the Starcatcher; Laurie Metcalf, The Other Place; Thomas Sadoski, Other Desert Cities; and Kristen Schaal, The Coward. In addition, Mike Birbiglia’s My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend was named Outstanding Solo Show.
Elevator Repair Service’s Gatz, produced by The Public Theater, was named the Outstanding Alternative Theatrical Experience, and the production’s director, John Collins, was named Outstanding Director. Steven Hoggett was named Outstanding Choreographer for Peter and the Starcatcher. Winning designers were costumer Gabriel Berry for The Coward, sound designer Mikhail Fiksel for The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity, lighting designer Ben Stanton for The Whipping Man, and set designer Donyale Werle for Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson.
