Greg Kotis and Mark Hollmann will be presenting their latest musical, Yeast Nation, at the 2011 New York International Fringe Festival (FringeNYC), which runs in various venues in downtown Manhattan, August 12-28.

Kotis and Hollmann are best known as the creators of Urinetown, which was the first and so-far only show to make the journey from Fringe production to Broadway stage, where it won three 2002 Tony Awards, including for the duo’s score, and also for Kotis’ book.

Yeast Nation is an original 15-performer musical set on the bottom of the primordial sea that tells the tale of earth’s first creatures as they struggle to survive and, ultimately, evolve.

Among the other newly announced shows that have been accepted into this year’s FringeNYC are: Ampersand: A Romeo & Juliet Story, The Average-Sized Mermaid, Bette Davis Ain’t For Sissies, Butoh Electra, The Chalks: An American Family in 3 Chords, I Light Up My Life: the Mark Sam Celebrity Autobiography, Jersey Shoresical: A Frickin’ Rock Opera, The Miss Teen Jesus Pageant, The Unsung Diva, and Zombie Wedding.
