The film -- with a screenplay by Irene Macchi, Jonathan Roberts, and Linda Woolverton, songs by Elton John, and original music by Hans Zimmer -- was originally released in 1994. Director Julie Taymor's stage version of the movie has played on Broadway since 1997. In addition, there are productions running in London and Las Vegas, along with a U.S. tour.
