Simon Russell Beale will star in Simon Stephens’ Bluebird, to run at Atlantic Stage 2, August 9 – September 9, with an opening on August 22. Gaye Taylor Upchurch will direct the production.

The play centers on a London taxi driver named Jimmy MacNeill (Beale), who seems to draw personal stories and confessions from his passengers without even trying. Over the course of the play, the truth of Jimmy’s own life and secret burdens unfurls with each new “fare.”

The company will also feature Mary McCann, Kate Blumberg, Tobias Segal and Todd Weeks. Additional casting and creative team will be announced shortly.

Beale’s most recent New York stage credits are The Winter’s Tale and The Cherry Orchard, seen at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Among his recent U.K. credits are Deathtrap in the West End and London Assurance at the National Theatre.
