The New Group (Scott Elliot, artistic director) held its 2011 gala on Monday, May 9 at Capitale.
Kristen Johnston and Frank Whaley served as hosts.
The event, which featured live entertainment, cocktails and dinner and silent and live auctions, paid tribute to Wallace Shawn and Fred Wistow, who were honored with the Michael Mendelson Award for Outstanding Commitment to Theater.
Shawn’s plays include Marie and Bruce, Aunt Dan and Lemon, The Fever, and The Designated Mourner. In 2009 he published his first book of non-fiction, Essays by Wallace Shawn. Wistow is a former member of the board for The New Group and currently serves as chairman of the Psychotherapy Network, Inc.
Christopher Sieber and Lucas Steele performed at the gala, while guests included Matthew Broderick, Bobby Cannavale, Kathryn Erbe, Katie Finneran, Darren Goldstein, Marin Ireland, Natasha Lyonne, Matthew Modine, Devin Ratray, Grant Shaud, and Reshma Shetty.
