The Best is Yet to Come: The Music of Cy Coleman opened at the
59E59 Theaters, where it will run through July 3. The production is directed and devised by David Zippel, with choreography by Lorin Lotarro.
Opening night guests included Kathie Lee Gifford, Hoda Kotb, Danny Aiello, Carolee Carmello, Charles Shaughnessy, Michael Feinstein, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Judith Light, James Naughton, Shelby Coleman, Tony Roberts, Christine Ebersole, Brent Barrett, Penny Fuller, Megan McGinnis, Phyllis Newman, Jamie deRoy, Jim David, and Charlotte Rae.
The show includes as-yet unpublished Coleman works, along with songs from several of Coleman’s musicals, including City of Angels, Sweet Charity, Barnum, The Life, Little Me and Will Rogers Follies. Also featured will be many of the standards he wrote (with lyricist Carolyn Leigh) that were made famous by Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, and Barbra Streisand.
The cast features David Burnham, Sally Mayes, Howard McGillin, Billy Stritch, Lillias White, and Rachel York.
