New York City Opera to Leave Lincoln Center

New York City Opera (NYCO) has announced that it will no longer produce at Lincoln Center, according to a report in The New York Times. The company has been offering its work in the center’s David H. Koch Theater, formerly known as the New York State Theatre.

NYCO has announced its intention to produce a 2011-2012 season, which will include five full productions, including, as previously announced, the U.S. premiere of Rufus Wainwright’s Prima Donna. Other programming information will be announced shortly.

In addition, the company is slated to present, as previously reported, an abridged concert version of Scott Joplin’s opera Treemonisha, on June 6 at The Schomburg Center (515 Malcolm X Boulevard) in Harlem. The piece centers on a young, educated freed slave who leads a campaign to educate her community, and the company will feature Marsha Thompson in the title role, along with Krysty Swann (Monisha), Robert Mack (Remus), Kenneth Overton (Zodzetrick) and Kevin Thompson (Ned).
