Meredith Monk to Celebrate CD Release of Songs of Ascension at Greene Space May 18

New Sounds Live will present a special live performance of selections from Meredith Monk’s new CD, Songs of Ascension at The Jerome L. Greene Performance Space on Wednesday, May 18 at 7pm.

The performers will be Meredith Monk & Vocal Ensemble and the Todd Reynolds Quartet, and Monk will also participate in a conversation with New Sounds host John Schaefer. The event will also be available as a live video webcast at www.thegreenespace.org.

One of Monk’s most spiritually and emotionally profound works, Songs of Ascension, which premiered in 2008, will be officially released on the ECM New Series label on May 17.

In related news, Monk will also be performing at 3-Legged Dog in "Education of the Girlchild Revisited, June 7-11. In addition to her 1972 solo "Education of the Girlchild," the program will also include "Shards," a new weaving of music, images and
movement composed during the "Girlchild" era (between 1969 and 1973). She will be joined by performers Ellen Fisher, Katie Geissinger, and Allison Sniffin. For tickets and more information on this performance, click here.
