David Auburn, Zoe Kazan, David Hyde Pierce Set for MTC’s 2011-2012 Season

Manhattan Theatre Club has announced three world premiere productions, to be presented in its upcoming 2011-2012 season.

On Broadway, MTC will present Pulitzer and Tony winner David Auburn’s The Columnist, at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre, beginning January 4, with an opening on January 26. The political drama centers on the syndicated newspaper columnist Joseph Alsop, and his place in the Washington political world.

In the company’s Off-Broadway theater, City Center – Stage 1, will be actress Zoe Kazan‘s New York playwriting debut, We Live Here (beginning September 22, with an opening on October 12). In the play, Dinah brings a new boyfriend to her sister’s wedding, who stirs up passions and painful memories for the whole family.

Also at City Center – Stage 1, Tony Award winner David Hyde Pierce will star in Molly Smith Metzler’s Close Up Space, to be directed by Leigh Silverman, beginning December 1, with an opening on December 19. The actor will play Paul Barrow, an obsessive book editor on a major deadline.
