Broadway Revival of Godspell to Begin Performances on October 13 at Circle in the Square

The long-planned Broadway revival of Stephen Schwartz’s musical Godspell will begin previews at Circle in the Square on October 13, with an official opening set for November 7.

Daniel Goldstein will direct the production, which will feature choreography by Christopher Gattelli. No casting has been announced.

The creative team will include David Korins (scenic design), Miranda Hoffman (costume design), Ben Stanton (lighting design), and Michael Holland (orchestrations).

The show, which debuted Off-Broadway at the Cherry Lane Theatre in 1971, is a take on biblical parables and the passion of Christ. It is conceived by original director John-Michael Tebelak, and features music and new lyrics from Schwartz.

Godspell played on Broadway in 1976 and 1977, where it ran for over 520 performances. It earned Schwartz a Tony Award nomination for Best Score. It also had a major Off-Broadway revival in 2000 and was produced by the Paper Mill Playhouse in 2006, where Goldstein directed it.
