2011 Tony Award Nominations Are Announced

The nominations for the 2011 Tony Awards have been announced.

The Book of Mormon leads the nominations with 14, including for Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Original Score, Direction, Choreography, Orchestrations, Scenic Design, Costume Design, Lighting Design, Sound Design, as well as for Leading Actors Josh Gad and Andrew Rannells, Featured Actor Rory O’Malley, and Featured Actress Nikki M. James.

Other shows competing for Best Musical are Catch Me If You Can, The Scottsboro Boys, and Sister Act. Best Revival of a Musical nominees are Anything Goes and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.

Competing for Best Play are David Lindsay Abaire’s Good People, Jez Butterworth’s Jerusalem, Stephen Adly Guirgis’ The Motherf**ker with the Hat, and Nick Stafford’s War Horse.

Play revival nominees are Arcadia, The Importance of Being Earnest, The Merchant of Venice, and The Normal Heart.

Acting nominees also included Nina Arianda, Ellen Barkin, Brian Bedford, Norbert Leo Butz, Bobby Cannavale, Mackenzie Crook, Billy Crudup, Edie Falco, Sutton Foster, Joshua Henry, John Benjamin Hickey, Beth Leavel, Judith Light, Joanna Lumley, Joe Mantello, Frances McDormand, Patina Miller, Arian Moayed, Donna Murphy, Al Pacino, Lily Rabe, Vanessa Redgrave, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Mark Rylance, Tony Sheldon, Yul Vazquez, and Hannah Yelland.

Among the notable omissions is Daniel Radcliffe, who did not receive a Best Actor nomination for his performance in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Sherie Rene Scott’s performance in Women on the Verge and Kathleen Turner’s in High were also heavily favored by theater insiders, but did not get nominated.
