Lawrence Dial, Kash Goins, James Earl Hardy Win Downtown Urban Theater Festival Awards

The Downtown Urban Theater Festival has announced the winners of its 2010 awards.

Lawrence Dial won “Best Play” for Promise Tomorrow, which chronicles a fractious reunion between a would-be rapper, his reluctant childhood friend, and in between, a troubled young hustler who can’t remember where her days went.

James Earl Hardy won “Best Short” for Confessions of a Homo Thug Porn Star, which starred Johnathan Cedano as Brooklyn born and bred Tiger Tyson, who bares his soul — and his skin — to a reporter. Kash Goins won the “Best Audience” award for VII Deadly Sins, about a group of college friends who reunite for the first time in 10 years.

Honorable mentions were given to the play The Choice, by Ricardo Costa, and the short, Chakalaka, by Cesi Davidson.
