Jennifer Holliday to Open the 2010 BAM Rhythm & Blues Festival

BAM and MetroTech Center have announced the lineup for the 2010 BAM Rhythm & Blues Festival at MetroTech Commons, a series of free concerts to be held Thursdays at noon, June 3 – August 5.

The Festival will open with an appearance by Tony Award winner Jennifer Holliday, who will be joined by the Uptown Horns. Also on the schedule is Nigerian drummer Tony Allen (June 17), who, as a member of Fela Kuti’s Africa 70, helped to create the pulse of Afrobeat, and who played with Fela for fifteen years before embarking on a career as a session drummer and solo artist.

Bernie Worrell’s SociaLybrium (June 10), Victor Wooten (June 24), Tabou Combo (July 1), Mighty Sparrow (July 8), Naomi Shelton and the Gospel Queens (July 15), Bilal (July 22), Vieux Farka Touré (July 29) and Mykal Rose of Black Uhuru (August 5) will also make appearances in the Festival.
