The Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) will honor pop star and Broadway veteran Cyndi Lauper, along with Pfizer, American Express, David Dechman and Michel Mercure, and Student Advocate of the Year Danielle Smith, at its seventh annual Respect Awards to be held at Gotham Hall on Monday, May 24.

Among the several celebrities expected to be in attendance will be recently “out” country singer Chely Wright.

Lauper starred on Broadway in the revival of The Threepenny Opera and appeared at Feinstein’s at Loews Regency last year as part of its True Colors cabaret series.

Established in 1990, GLSEN seeks to develop school climates where difference is valued for the positive contribution it makes to creating a more vibrant and diverse community. For information, visit www.glsen.org.
