Geoffrey Rush, Elton John, Angela Lansbury, Arthur Laurents, et al. Receive Drama League Awards

The 75th Annual Drama League Awards Ceremony and Luncheon were held at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Times Square on Friday, May 15. Jeremy Irons and Cynthia Nixon co-hosted the event.

The group’s five main awards went to Exit the King star Geoffrey Rush for Distinguished Performance of the Year; God of Carnage for Distinguished Production of a Play; Billy Elliot for Distinguished Production of a Musical; Blithe Spirit for Distinguished Revival of a Play; and Hair for Distinguished Revival of a Musical. The musicals Next to Normal, [title of show] and the play Dividing the Estate were considered in previous years and were ineligible.

As previously announced, Elton John received the Distinguished Achievement in a Musical Theatre Award; Arthur Laurents received the Julia Hansen Award; Angela Lansbury received the Unique Contribution to the Theatre Award, and producer Herb Blodgett received with the 75th Anniversary Leadership Award.
