Casting has been announced for Clubbed Thumb’s Summerworks 2009, the company’s 14th annual festival of new plays, to be presented at the Ohio Theatre, June 3- 27.

The festival will begin with Gregory Moss’ punkplay (June 7-13), to be directed by Davis McCallum. Set in the 1980s, it concerns a 13-year-old suburbanite and an angry runaway Duck who attempt to reinvent themselves through punk rock. The cast will include Michael Zegen, Alex Anfanger, Matt Burns, and Elena Chang.

Next up will be Madeleine George’s Precious Little (June 14-20), to be directed by Hal Brooks. The play centers on a gifted professor of linguistics, who learns the child she’s carrying may have a genetic abnormality. The cast will include Emily Ackerman, Randy Danson, and Kelly McCreary.

The festival will conclude with Kristin Newbom’s Telethon (June 21-27), to be directed by Ken Rus Schmoll. In it, the staff and patients of a group home for the disabled meet at Dunkin’ Donuts following their seasonal ad-hoc fundraising drives. The cast will include Birgit Huppuch, Christina Kirk and Andrew Weems.

In addition, Clubbed Thumb will hold a free opening night theatrical celebration entitled ‘O*H*I*O!’ on Wednesday, June 3 from 8pm to 11pm. Susan Bernfield, David Herskovits, Melanie Joseph, Robert Lyons, Kristin Marting and more will toast (and roast) a beloved institution and home.
