Celina Carvajal to Join Off-Broadway’s Toxic Avenger

Celina Carvajal will take over the role of Sarah in the Off-Broadway musical, The Toxic Avenger, currently at the New World Stages, beginning June 15. She replaces Sara Chase, who is leaving the cast to appear in the Old Globe Theatre’s world premiere of The First Wives Club.

The musical — featuring book and lyrics by Joe DiPietro, music by Bon Jovi’s David Bryan, and direction by Tony Award winner John Rando — focuses on an aspiring earth scientist tossed into a vat of radioactive goo, becoming New Jersey superhero The Toxic Avenger. The cast also includes Nick Cordero, Demond Green, Matthew Saldivar, and Nancy Opel.

The creative team includes Beowolf Boritt (set), David C. Woolard (costumes), Kenneth Posner (lighting), Kurt Fischer (s0und), Mark Adam Rampmeyer (hair & make-up), John Dods (prosthetics & special effects), Rick Sordelet & David DeBesse (fight direction), Wendy Seyb (choreographer), David Bryan & Chris Jahnke (orchestrations) and Doug Katsaros (music director).

Carvajal’s Broadway credits include Tarzan, Dracula, 42nd Street, and Cats, with additional theater credits including Bed Bugs, Green Eyes, and Radiant Baby. She was a contestant on MTV’s Legally Blonde, the Search for the Next Elle Woods, and other film and television credits include Sex and the City, The Stepford Wives, The Graduates, and All My Children.
