William H. Macy has joined the cast of the family comedy adventure Shorts, directed by Robert Rodriguez from his own screenplay, according to Variety.

The film involves a suburb where all the houses look the same and everyone works for the same company, which is thrown into a chaos when an 11-year-old boy is hit in the head with a rainbow-colored rock that grants wishes to anyone who holds it.

The cast will also include Jimmy Bennett, Jon Cryer, Kat Dennings, Trevor Gagnon, Leo Howard, Devon Gearhart, Leslie Mann, Rebel Rodriguez, Jake Short, James Spader, and Jolie Vanier.

Macy is a co-founder of the Atlantic Theater Company, where his credits as actor and director include American Buffalo, The Joy of Going Somewhere Definite, Three Sisters, and Boy’s Life. His many other stage credits include Our Town, Oleanna, Bobby Gould in Hell, and The Dining Room. He received an Oscar nomination for Fargo and won two Emmy Awards for starring in and co-writing the telefilm Door to Door.
