Jonathan Kent to Stage Santa Fe Opera’s Marriage of Figaro

Award-winning director Jonathan Kent will stage the Santa Fe Opera’s production of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro as part of the company’s 2008 season, which runs June 27-August 22. The production will be conducted by Kenneth Montgomery, and star Luca Pisaroni, Elizabeth Watts, Mariusz Kwiecen, Susanna Phillips, and Isabel Leonard.

Kent was co-artistic director of London’s acclaimed Almeida Theatre for 12 years, where his productions include Medea and Hamlet, both of which transferred to Broadway. His other Broadway credits include the 2002 revival of Man of La Mancha and the 2006 revival of Faith Healer. His previous Santa Fe Opera credits include Katya Kabanova, Lucio Silla, and The Tempest.

The Santa Fe season will also include the American premiere of Kaija Saariaho and Amin Maalouf’s Adriana Mater, to be directed by Peter Sellars, and productions of Falstaff, Billy Budd, and Radamisto.
