Broadway Attendance, Grosses Down Slightly Due to Fall Strike

The 19-day strike against the Broadway League last fall resulted in a slight drop in paid attendance and grosses for the 2007-2008 Broadway season, according to a report issued by the League. A total of 36 plays and musicals opened during the season, 20 of which are still running, as well as 14 shows that opened in previous seasons.

For the 52-week period ending on May 25, paid attendance was 12.27 million, a decrease of 0.2 percent from the previous season, while estimated grosses were $937.5 million, a decrease of $1 million from the prior season. (The League estimated grosses for Young Frankenstein, since producers did not report grosses to the League.)
