As previously announced, the company's Alliance Stage season will begin with August Wilson's Gem of the Ocean and Radio Golf in repertory, directed respectively by Kenny Leon and Kent Gash. Up next will be Janece Shafer's romantic comedy Managing Maxine, about a 70-year-old getting a second chance at love; and Jesus Christ Superstar Gospel, a reconceived version of the Tim Rice-Andrew Lloyd Webber musical.
The smaller Hertz Stage will start its season with the world premiere of The Second City: Too Busy to Hate... Too Hard to Commute, a revue created in partnership with Chicago's Second City troupe. It will be followed by Julia Brownell's Smart Cookie, about a New York socialite whose perfect world comes apart when her son arrives home from prep school, and the world premiere of Quiara Alegria Hudes' 26 Miles, about a mother and daughter on a road trip.
The theater's Family Series will include Goodnight Moon, based on the beloved children's book, and Class of 3000 Live, a stage version of the hit Cartoon Network Series. In addition, the Alliance will once again present A Christmas Carol.
