Alabama Shakespeare Festival Announces 2008-2009 Season

The Alabama Shakespeare Festival has announced the selections for its 2008-2009 season, which will include three world premieres.

The season will kick off with Three Mo’ Divas (September 26-October 12), Marion J. Caffey’s female spin-off of his hit musical Three Mo’ Tenors. Next up will be the family favorite, Charlotte’s Web, adapted by Joseph Robinette, to be presented October 8-November 16. A Christmas Carol: The Musical, featuring music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, will follow, November 7-December 28.

The new year will see the world premiere of Michael Vigilant’s Bear Country (January 11-February 15), about legendary University of Alabama football coach Paul “Bear” Bryant. The world premiere of Elyzabeth Gregory Wilder’s The Furniture of Home will follow, March 8-April 5, telling the story of four people struggling to rebuild their lives in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The third world premiere presentation will be Robert Ford’s The Fall of the House (April 19-May 17), about an ex-slave, Edgar Allen Poe, and a twentieth century female architect.

ASF’s 2009 summer repertory will include The Three Musketeers (April 26-June 14), Othello (May 3-June 14), and The Comedy of Errors (May 10-June 14). The season will conclude with Boublil and Schonberg’s Les Miserables, July 12-August 16.
