Symphony Space Will Present Wall to Wall Opera on May 19

Symphony Space will present Wall to Wall Opera from 11am to midnight on Saturday, May 19. Live portions of this free event will be broadcast from 3pm to 4:30pm on WQXR. In addition, excerpts will be broadcast as part of the new Symphony Space Live program.

Among the many highlights of the event will be a master class in bel canto singing with former Metropolitan star Renata Scotto; classic arias sung by soloists from New York City Opera and the Metropolitan Opera’s Young Artists Program; excerpts of work by Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht, performed by the Liedekranz Opera Theater; and a segment of Verdi’s Un Ballo in Maschera, performed by Mannes Opera.

In addition, there will be performances of new works by Ricky Ian Gordon, Eric Salzman, Tarik O’Reagan, John David Earnest, and Derek Bermel. There will also be discussions on the state of opera past and present with Mark Scorca, CEO of Opera America, and other special guests.
