Oprah Winfrey Show to Host Hairspray Film Cast

The May 16 edition of The Oprah Winfrey Show will be devoted to the film version of the hit Broadway musical Hairspray, which will be released by New Line Cinema on July 20.

On the episode, Winfrey will interview four of the film’s stars: John Travolta, who plays Edna Turnblad; Christopher Walken, who plays Wilbur Turnblad; Michelle Pfeiffer, who plays Velma Von Tussle; and Queen Latifah, who plays Motormouth Maybelle. There will also be at least one musical number featuring members of the film’s cast.

Hairspray, to be directed by Adam Shankman, also stars Nikki Blonsky as Tracy Turnblad, Amanda Bynes as Penny Pingleton, Zac Efron as Link Larkin, Brittany Snow as Amber von Tussle, James Marsden as Corny Collins, and Allison Janney as Prudy Pingleton. The film features a score by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, and a screenplay by Leslie Dixon and Thomas Meehan.
