Full casting has been announced for the world premiere of Take Flight, a new musical by David Shire, Richard Maltby, Jr., and John Weidman, to play London’s Menier Chocolate Factory, July 13-September 22. The production, to be directed by Sam Buntrock, will open on July 25.

The show, which tells the inspirational stories of the pioneers of flight, will star Sally Ann Triplett as Amelia Earhart, Ian Bartholomew as her husband, explorer Charles Putnam, Michael Jibson as Charles Lindbergh, and Sam Kenyon and Elliot Levey as the Wright Brothers.

The creative team includes designer David Farley and musical director Caroline Humphris, both of whom worked previously with Buntrock on the Menier’s award-winning revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park With George.

Maltby, who wrote the show’s lyrics, and Shire, who wrote the music, have previously collaborated on the musical Big and the revues Closer than Ever and Starting Here, Starting Now, among other projects. Weidman, who wrote the book, performed similar duties on Sondheim’s Assassins, Bounce, and Pacific Overtures.
