Bean, DeLaria, Jackson, Kelly, et al. Set for York’s Superman

Cheyenne Jackson will play Clark Kent/Superman, Jean Louisa Kelly will play Lois Lane, and Shoshana Bean will play Sydney in The York Theatre Company’s Musicals in Mufti presentation of It’s a Bird. . . It’s a Plane. . . It’s Superman, June 15-17.

The show, to be directed by Stuart Ross, will also star Lea DeLaria as Dr. Abner Sedgwick and the musical’s composer Charles Strouse as Perry White. The cast will also feature Stan Chandler, Scott Federly, Rachel Jones, Amy Ryder, Michael Winther, and Katherine Von Till.

The musical also has lyrics by Lee Adams, and a book by David Newman and Robert Benton; it concerns Superman, who is facing a mad scientist and an evil newsman while fighting for the hand of Lois Lane.

The Mufti series will continue with the New York premiere of I and Albert (June 29-July 1), with a score by Strouse and Adams and a book by Jay Presson Allen; Kent Gash’s production of Bajour (July 13-15), with a book by Ernest Kinoy and music and lyrics by Walter Marks; and The Day Before Spring (July 27-29), co-written by Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe, about a married woman who considers running off with her old flame after they meet again at a college reunion.
