Alan Rosenberg will co-star opposite S. Epatha Merkerson in William Inge’s classic drama Come Back, Little Sheba at L.A.’s Kirk Douglas Theatre, June 17-July 15. He replaces previously announced star Bruce Davison, who withdrew due to a scheduling conflict.

The production, which will open on June 24, will be directed by Michael Pressman. The cast also includes Jenna Gavigan as Marie, along with Roger Aaron Brown, Josh Cooke, Michael Dempsey, Bill Heck, Lyle Kanouse, Joe Mahon, Brenda Wehle, and Matthew J. Williamson. The creative team includes James Noone (sets), Jennifer Von Meyerhauser (costumes), Jane Cox (lighting), Cricket S. Myers (sound), and Peter Golub (original music).

The show focuses on Lola (Merkerson), a woman caught in a stale 25-year marriage to the alcoholic Doc (Rosenberg). The play opened on Broadway in 1950; it won Tony Awards for Shirley Booth as Lola and Sidney Blackmer as Doc. Booth also won the Oscar for the 1952 film version, which co-starred Burt Lancaster and Terry Moore.

Rosenberg starred on Broadway in Lost in Yonkers and What’s Wrong With This Picture? He has starred in such television series as Civil Wars, L..A. Law, Cybill, Chicago Hope, and The Guardian. He recently guest starred on the CBS series CSI, which stars his wife, Marg Helgenberger.
