Charles Grodin, Carey Lowell, and Johanna Day will star in a free-admission reading of Grodin’s new play The Prosecution of Brandon Hein to be held at 7:30 pm on Monday, June 5 at the Barrow Street Theatre (27 Barrow Street). Gordon Edelstein will direct the performance.

The play is based on the true story of Hein, a young man who is currently serving a sentence of life in prison — without the possibility of parole — for a murder that another boy confessed to committing. Hein was convicted due to a loophole in a felony murder rule for getting drunk and getting into a fight.

Grodin will play Hein’s father, Day his mother, and Lowell the defense attorney. The cast also includes James McMenamin as Brandon, Bruce Altman as Mr. Farris, Julia Gibson as Mrs. Farris, and Bruce McVittie as the prosecutor.

Tickets to the reading are available by e-mailing boxoffice@cultureproject.org.
