Gay Gotham Chorus to Perform Music by Sondheim, Gilbert & Sullivan, etc. in June 18 Concert

The Gay Gotham Chorus will present From the Grand Tier: An Evening of Opera & Operetta, on Saturday, June 18 at 8pm at the Church of St. Paul & St. Andrew (West 86th Street at West End Avenue).

The concert program will include Stephen Sondheim’s “Pretty Lady” (from Pacific Overtures) and “Sunday” (from Sunday in the Park With George), Gilbert & Sullivan’s “If You Want To Know Who We Are” (from The Mikado), and choruses from operas by such composers as Beethoven, Donizetti, Mozart, Puccini, Purcell, and Rossini.

A highlight of the evening will be the world premiere of “Sweet Soul,” a new work commissioned by the GGC from composer Stephen Paulus, featuring special guest mezzo-soprano Margaret Lattimore. Paulus has previously received commissions from such organizations as the New York Philharmonic, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. Lattimore has sung with such world-renowned companies as the Metropolitan Opera, the New York City Opera, and the Washington Opera.
