Frances Sternhagen to be Honored by Women’s Project

Two-time Tony Award winner Frances Sternhagen will receive the Women of Achievement Award at The Women’s Project’s 20th Annual Women of Achievement Gala, to be held on Monday, June 6 at Cipriani 23rd Street.

Sternhagen, who plays Clairee in the current Broadway production of Steel Magnolias, has received seven Tony Award nominations; she has won the award twice, as Best Featured Actress in a Play for The Good Doctor (1974) and The Heiress (1995). She made her Broadway debut in 1955, in Thornton Wilder’s The Skin of Our Teeth.

This year, Sternhagen has also been honored with the Lucille Lortel Organization’s Edith Oliver Award for Sustained Excellence in the Theatre and a Drama Desk nomination for Best Actress in a Play for her work in Echoes of the War. During her distinguished career, she has won Obie, Drama League, Dramatists Guild, Clarence Derwent awards.
