Butz and d’Amboise to Receive TDF/Astaire Awards

The winners of the 2005 TDF/Astaire Awards, presented annually for the “Best Dance on Broadway,” have been named by the TDF/Astaire Awards committee and announced by the awards administrator, the Theatre Development Fund.

Charlotte d’Amboise will receive a special award for her “invaluable contribution to Broadway dance during the 2004-05 season.” Currently starring in Chicago, d’Amboise played the title role in Sweet Charity earlier this spring as the cover for an injured Christina Applegate; she received her first Astaire Award in 1995 for her performance in Damn Yankees. Norbert Leo Butz has been named “Best Male Dancer” for his performance in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. This year, the committee did not bestow awards in the categories of “Best Choreographer” or “Best Female Dancer.”

The TDF/Astaire Awards recognize outstanding achievement in dance on Broadway. This year’s awards will be presented at a private reception on June 14.
