At the end of each season, the Theatre World Awards honor outstanding debut performances on and off Broadway. This year’s ceremony, held yesterday afternoon at Studio 54 and hosted by TheaterMania’s own Peter Filichia, celebrated a particularly strong group of artists. Here is past winner Bernadette Peters with John Willis, longtime editor of Theatre World.
Among the many honorees, presenters, and attendees photographed at the ceremony: John Cullum and Tammy Grimes…
…Jennifer Westfeldt, honored for her performance as Eileen in Wonderful Town…
…Euan Morton, honored for his performance as Boy George in Taboo…
…John Tartaglia (left), honored for his singing, acting, and puppetry in Avenue Q, seen here with past Theatre World Award winners Michael Cerveris (center) and Raúl Esparza…
…Alexander Gemignani, honored for his performance as John Hinckley in Assassins…
…Isabel Keating and Mitchel David Federan, respectively honored for their performances as Judy Garland and the young Peter Allen in The Boy From Oz. (The up-and-coming Hugh Jackman, another 2004 Theatre World Award winner for his tour de force as the adult Peter Allen in the show, was unable to make it to the ceremony but sent a lovely, brief acceptance speech that was read by Keating.)
