Intimate Apparel Will Transfer to Los Angeles

After finishing its successful extended Off-Broadway run on June 13th, the acclaimed Roundabout Theatre Company production of Lynn Nottage’s new play Intimate Apparel will transfer to Los Angeles, where the Mark Taper Forum will give the play its West Coast premiere.


Nottage’s play about an African-American seamstress with a gift for sewing chic lingerie has been outfitted with the New York Drama Critics’ Best Play of the Season Award, an Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Play, the John Gassner Award for Best Play, Drama Desk and OBIE Awards for Best Actress for star Viola Davis, the 2004 American Theatre Critic’s Association’s Francesca Primus Award, the 2004 Steinberg New Play Award, the Laura Pels “Pen” Award, and a Drama League nomination for Best Play.


The original cast, including stage and screen actress Davis, will stay on for the L.A. run. Previews start on July 25th; the play opens officially on August 5th and closes on September 12th.
