Cats‘ Last Meow in London

The long-running theatrical sensation Cats closes in London’s West End this Saturday, May 11, 2002, on the date of its 21st anniversary. The Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, based on a collection of poems by T.S. Eliot, will take a final bow after its 8,950th performance.

To make sure it goes out with a bang, a huge afternoon celebration has been organized to take place in Covent Garden; this will include face painting, goody bag giveaways, live interviews with cast members, and a competition to win tickets to the show’s final performance. The festivities will be capped off with a live outdoor screening of the final show for those unable to get tickets to see it in the theater.

The Cats creative team has been hard at work devising the finale of this last performance, which will feature many alumni of the musical, including Brian Blessed and Elaine Paige.
