, featuring Australian national treasure Barry Humphries, may have captured the hearts of New York theatergoers; but, on his home soil, not everyone is enchanted with Edna/Humphries’ onstage antics.

The self-proclaimed housewife turned superstar ends his/her hit show by showering the audience with gladioli. Unfortunately, during a performance last year in Humphries’ hometown of Melbourne, one of the large flowers struck the left eye of an audience member. Gary May, a 49-year-old singing teacher, was rushed to the hospital after sustaining the temporary eye injury.

May is suing Duet Entertainment Pty Ltd, the company that organized the performance, for unspecified damages for pain and suffering, loss of income, and medical expenses. A pre-hearing for the lawsuit will take place June 29 at the Melbourne Magistrates Court.
