Of Mice and Men, Starring James Franco and Chris O'Dowd, Opens on Broadway Tonight

Twentieth century American literature comes alive (with sexy 21st century actors) in the latest revival of John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men, opening tonight at the Longacre Theatre. The starry cast includes Golden Globe winner James Franco (the Spider-Man film franchise) in his Broadway debut. Irish actor Chris O'Dowd (Bridesmaids) and television star Leighton Meester (Gossip Girl) also make their Broadway debuts in the show. Tony winner Jim Norton (The Mystery of Edwin Drood), Ron Cephas Jones (The Motherf****r With the Hat), Joel Marsh Garland, James McMenamin (Butley), Alex Morf, Jim Ortlieb (Guys and Dolls), and Jim Parrack round out the cast. Tony winner Anna D. Shapiro (August: Osage County) directs.
Of Mice and Men tells the story of George (Franco) and Lennie (O'Dowd), two migrant farm workers in Depression-era California. They dream of settling down on their own patch of land, where Lennie can stroke soft rabbits all day long. They'll have to get through their current job, however, on a ranch at which the boss's diminutive son Curley (Morf) doesn't take kindly to larger men. Curly's wife (Meester), on the other hand, is a different story.
Of Mice and Men is a classic play, based on a novella that nearly every American high school student reads. The last Broadway revival opened in 1974. You can see production stills from this new revival below:
