The Oldest Boy, a new play by Pulitzer Prize finalist Sarah Ruhl, will receive its world premiere production this fall courtesy of Lincoln Center Theater. Directed by Rebecca Taichman, the show will begin previews Thursday, October 16, at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater, with opening night set for November 10.

In The Oldest Boy, the toddler son of an American woman and a Tibetan man is recognized as the reincarnation of a high Buddhist teacher. When two monks seek permission to take him to a monastery in India, his parents must decide whether to send their young son away or keep him home.

Taichman's production will feature scenic design by Mimi Lien, costumes by Anita Yavich, lighting by Japhy Weideman, and sound by Darron L. West. Casting will be announced in the coming months.

Commissioned by Lincoln Center Theater, The Oldest Boy marks Ruhl's return to the organization, which has presented the New York debuts of her plays The Clean House and In the Next Room, or the vibrator play.
