Flashback Friday: Remembering Dreams Deferred With Sidney Poitier as We Welcome Tony Winner Denzel Washington Back to Broadway

A trailer for the 1961 film adaptation of ”A Raisin in the Sun” with the original Walter Lee.

Kenny Leon's latest revival of Lorraine Hansberry's A Raisin in the Sun opened last night at the Barrymore Theatre, with Tony and Oscar winner Denzel Washington in the leading role of Walter Lee, Jr. He fills the immeasurably large shoes of the play's first Walter Lee, Oscar winner and living theater legend Sidney Poitier, who starred in the original 1959 Broadway production, which gave him his only Tony nomination, and in the 1961 film adaptation. Take a look at a trailer of the film, when it was still in its infancy in the vault of American theater.
