Disney's first stage musical, Beauty and the Beast, will celebrate its 20th anniversary by hitting the road and going on an English-language international tour. Presented by Disney Theatrical Productions, NETworks, and Broadway Entertainment Group, the engagement will kick off this October at the Zorlu Center in Istanbul before heading to Kazakhstan, United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Thailand, and elsewhere.
The revival will reunite the show's original Broadway creative team. Rob Roth directs, with Matt West serving as choreographer, Ann Hould-Ward as costume designer, Natasha Katz as lighting designer, Stanley A. Meyer as scenic designer, John Petrafesa Jr. as sound designer, and Michael Kosarin as musical supervisor.
Based on the 1991 Academy Award-winning animated film, Beauty and the Beast, featuring a score by Alan Menken, Howard Ashman, and Tim Rice and a book by Linda Woolverton, ran for 13 years on Broadway after premiering in 1994. Since licensing began in 2004, the musical has been seen in 22 countries and translated into eight languages.
Casting and additional information about the tour will be announced in the coming months.
