Now fully recovered after injuring his hand in rehearsal, Tony nominee Christopher Sieber will join the Broadway production of Matilda The Musical at the Shubert Theatre tonight, April 18. Sieber takes on the role of Miss Trunchbull, the evil headmistress of Crunchem Hall. He was originally scheduled to begin performances March 18.
Matilda, which originated in London, is based on the beloved children's novel by Roald Dahl. It currently runs at the Shubert Theatre. Matilda features a score by Tim Minchin, a Tony-winning book by Dennis Kelly, and direction by Matthew Warchus. It stars four young ladies rotating in the title role: Paige Brady, Gabriella Pizzolo, Ripley Sobo, and Ava Ulloa, along with Jill Paice as Miss Honey, Lesli Margherita as Mrs. Wormwood, Matt Harrington as Mr. Wormwood, and Karen Aldridge as Mrs. Phelps.
Sieber is not the first performer to be injured preparing to take on the role. Craig Bierko, who was the initial replacement for original cast member Bertie Carvel, bowed out of the show completely after hurting his shoulder. In the interim, the role was played by Chris Hoch and Ben Thompson.
