Southwark Playhouse has announced the first plays that will be produced in its new venue, one in the 240-seat mainstage space and one at the smaller studio space.
Tanzi Libre, by Claire Luckham (Blackbird), directed by artistic director Ellie Jones (A Christmas Carol), will play on the mainstage from May 15-June 22. The play, often known by the title Trafford Tanzi, follows Tanzi and her love interest, Dean Rebel, as they're pitted against each other for the "fight of the decade." This version of Tanzi Libre will be unique as it incorporates the Mexican Lucha libre style of wrestling.
In the studio space The Little, Vicky Araico Casas will perform her own Juana in a Million from May 22-June 15. Nir Paldi will direct this one-woman show about betrayal and hope, exploring true stories of immigrants to the UK.
To celebrate the opening of the new spaces, the playhouse will be offering free tickets for Tanzi Libre to all residents of Southwark. All Southwark households can receive a maximum of two each of the 1000 free tickets to be distributed
