Actor Sam Waterston (King Lear), Shakespeare scholar James Shapiro, novelist Téa Obreht, and New York Magazine book critic Kathryn Schulz are set to participate in The Public Theater's Sonnets for the City Public Forum on April 26. The event will celebrate the birthday of William Shakespeare.

Sonnets for the City will explore the magic of Shakespeare's work with insights from the panelists. Shapiro will share his scholarly insights about the bard's beloved poems, while Waterston, who recently played the title role in King Lear at the Public, will read and offer insight on the sonnets. Schulz will discuss how the sonnets relate to contemporary authors, and Obreht, author of the acclaimed novel The Tiger's Wife, will read a new poem inspired by Shakespeare's poetry.

The Public Forum is a series of conversations and performances about ideas and theater, curated by Jeremy McCarter.
